vet in training

miss lauren is a VIT (vet in training)

as of tonight she has been doing the procedures for malia (iv injection-tranquilizer, wound dressing removal and checking (3 major wounds) wound scrubbing, wound flushing, wound sanitizing, wound packing and wrapping. then she gives 2 oral meds, 2 intramuscular injections and one more intravascular injection.) pretty serious stuff. she has to wear surgical gloves and keep her hands from touching anything. i was amazed watching her. so was the vet. he kept saying, i can’t believe you are 14.

monday malia is most likely being transported home sweet home.

the good news is that the vet sees no sign of lameness! if you could see her wounds you would know what a miracle that is at such an early stage. her wounds look significantly better since i saw them the day before. on thursday i saw them get dressed twice and i thought i was looking at a road kill. really. i couldn’t believe such a thing was possible. today they look bad but you can hardly see the bone and they have better color etc.

i am not worried about lauren. i was two days ago because she seemed too wired. now that she knows malia is safe and sound she is really getting off on learning with the vet, hanging out with the other horse people at the horse farm and she seems to be doing well. i have driven her to the stable a few times and spent hours together, helping and chatting. she seems to be in her element. we actually talked tonight about lauren’s need to discharge (as we were watching malia do some big yawns-discharges). lauren is aware of it. and i feel confident she will get the opportunity.

that’s all that’s fit to write. plus i’m tired. we drove to pahoa after the last horse treatment and picked up thai take out. i ate so much i feel sleepy like thanksgiving sleepy~
