I'm so happy I found your web site, it just proves we can make it off the grid. I lived on the Big Island for a year and bought a one acre property in Mountain View. It was hard for me because I lived there by myself, and it was hard to get help.
I also had to work full time in Hilo so that took a lot of my time. I often go back and forth to Hilo and would love to visit your farm. I too hope one day I can live on my property and just enjoy the farm life, Peggy

Nubian goats have the richest cream of all goats. Why are you not making your own butter? It is very easy, skim the fat of the cream and place in a jar. Have the children shake the jar until a clump of butter forms and then wash the butter add salt if you wish. Home made butter is creamy white. Store bought has dye added which you can purchase if you like yellow butter.

I would like to visit your farm, we just leased 35 acres in Pahoa with a tilapia pond that needs a lot of water hyacinth removed.

I just read your article about food production (and every other article as well), very exciting to hear how far you have come in just a year (my last visit). Mango vinegar! Salt sauce! Sounds like fat is the missing element, but not for long, between the pigs and the coconuts it sounds like you will have it covered. It there a tropical olive? Avocado oil can be good, but I think it doesn't have much of a shelf life.

But, no Worchestershire? Dear Lord.

With no fish, how do you cover those essential omega 3's?

Having worked in your kitchen, I agree about its expansion. If you extended 15 feet to the southeast, that would allow for some space for a family roundtable experience. The space where the low table currently sits could be converted to a prep-counter/ crock shelf area with food dryer below - unless, or course, you were thinking of having the dryer located in the barn.

Basically, I wanted to say, "You are my heros."

See you soon.
